The preservation of our environment and the responsible use of raw material resources is an important aspect of Bürkle's product and corporate philosophy.
Our measures for sustainable action
We are working on a daily basis to act sustainably and ensure our climate neutrality through various measures, both large and small.
With over 1000 m2 of solar modules and over 1240 hours of sunshine a year in Bad Bellingen, we feed our power source. This enables us to reduce our annual CO2 emissions by more than 136 tonnes.
We purchase green electricity. Thanks to the combination of green electricity and self-generated electricity, our electricity consumption is 100 per cent emission-free.
When manufacturing our products, we have optimised the production processes so that they are as sustainable as possible.
Our heating system is fed from the groundwater using a heat exchanger, and we also channel the process heat into the heating system.
The lighting in the warehouse is controlled by motion detectors; the light is only switched on when an employee enters a shelf aisle. All light sources have been switched to LED.
Charging stations for electric cars are installed on the company premises and we almost exclusively use electric cars as company cars.
We organise all processes as sustainably as possible, not only in production but also in administration. In the administration building, oil consumption is minimised by controlling the room temperature in the offices using heat pumps and air conditioning units.
Only plastic made from renewable raw materials is used in the production of our LaboPlast® Bio- and SteriPlast® Bio.
We participate in the GLS KlimaProtect programme - this means that parcel shipping via General Logistics Systems Germany GmbH & Co. OHG is completely climate-neutral.
Replacing windows and doors improves sound and thermal insulation.
EcoVadis sustainability rating
Bürkle receives the EcoVadis gold medal for sustainability, placing it in the top 5% of all companies assessed - and even in the top 2% in our industry.
In the area of the environment, we have achieved Advanced status with 70/100 points.

The preservation of our environment and the responsible use of raw material resources is an important aspect of Bürkle's product and corporate philosophy. We therefore regard environmental protection as an interdisciplinary task that affects all areas, from raw material purchasing and production through to disposal. Our goal is clearly formulated:
To conserve resources and minimise emissions.
Environmental protection is integrated into our products.
When developing products, we always consider their potential environmental impact from the outset. For good reason, we therefore use the environmentally friendly and fully recyclable plastics polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) as far as possible. They are non-toxic and groundwater-neutral. We have optimised our production process so that rejects and waste are reduced to a minimum. In doing so, we rely on production processes that are geared towards subsequent reuse. We have the technical facilities and expertise to close the raw material cycle as far as possible.

Doch trotz aller Maßnahmen können wir als produzierendes Unternehmen den Einsatz von Ressourcen sowie den Ausstoß von Emissionen nie ganz verhindern, sondern nur reduzieren. Um dennoch ein ganzheitlich nachhaltiges Handeln sicherzustellen, gleichen wir unseren unvermeidbaren CO2 -Austoß aus, indem wir Klimaschutzprojekte fördern, die nach den weltweiten Standards zertifiziert sind.

Without fossil raw materials - products made from bioplastics.
We also offer products made from bioplastics. We only use plastic made from renewable raw materials to manufacture these. This is 100 per cent recyclable and contains no fossil raw materials. This means significant CO2 savings and a reduction in the greenhouse effect.
ACT Label
To ensure increased transparency in the area of sustainability, the products in the LaboPlast® Bio and SteriPlast® Bio lines have carried the ACT label since 2023. This label provides information on how the product performs in various criteria, including production, impact of use, product life cycle and innovation.
Do more with less energy.
Every kilowatt hour of electricity saved is a benefit for our environment and a relief for the energy budget. For example, sensors in the warehouse ensure that lights are only switched on when an aisle is entered. Process heat is not dissipated into the environment, but into the heating system. This in turn draws heat from the groundwater using heat exchangers - from the company's own well. And the neighbouring biotope enjoys the roof surface water. We are focussing on electromobility.
We believe in CO2 -neutral mobility, after all, cars with combustion engines contribute massively to air pollution. We have therefore installed charging stations for electric cars on the company premises and we mainly use electric cars as company cars.
Promoting innovation with your own ideas.
Economic efficiency and environmental protection are perfectly compatible at Bürkle. That is why we promote environmental awareness among our employees, who contribute to reducing environmental pollution or preventing it from the outset through innovative ideas and their concrete implementation.
Packaging is no small matter for us.
Less packaging - more environmental protection. By consistently focussing on environmentally friendly shipping, Bürkle not only reduces packaging, but also minimises waste.

Ambition for environmental protection.
Our aim is not only to comply with laws and regulations, but also to be better than they prescribe. This applies not only to the quality management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015, which we introduced back in the 1990s and which covers all processes in the company. This ambitious goal also applies to environmental protection. As we only process plastics and do not manufacture them, we are a company with a fundamentally very low environmental impact.

Risk assessment during supplier evaluation
It is important to Bürkle GmbH to work with suppliers who are aware of their social responsibility. For this reason, we have established a risk management system for the supply chain. We carry out risk analyses and check compliance with the principles and values listed in our CoC by means of self-disclosures and risk-based supplier audits on site.
We conduct risk-based supplier audits in accordance with the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). An ESG platform is used to carry out risk analyses and to define and monitor preventive and corrective measures.
